I’m Stephanie DeBrincat, interior designer, founder, and mom. I created Rockabye Mommy in 2012 with the belief that children’s spaces deserve the same level of design, detail, and intention as any other room in the home.
For more than a decade, I’ve specialized in high-end nurseries and children’s interiors, bringing a luxury design perspective to spaces that are often treated much more casually. My approach combines sophisticated design with healthier material choices, thoughtful functionality, and a sense of joy. I want each room to feel immersive, personal, and experiential, not simply decorated.
My background spans model home merchandising, global residential development, furniture brand strategy, and full-scale interior design. I also lead Lot One Design Studio, where we design custom residential and boutique commercial interiors.
Rockabye Mommy, though, has always held a special place for me. It allows me to bring together my experience as a designer and a mom to create spaces that feel considered from every angle, from the materials we use to the way a room supports play, rest, creativity, imagination, and growing up.
For the families we work with, it’s about more than creating a beautiful room. It’s about creating an environment that feels elevated, healthy, joyful, and completely unique to the child who gets to experience it.

Your child’s health and safety are a meaningful part of how we approach every design. We work with vendors and makers who share that commitment, and we’re thoughtful about the materials, finishes, and products we bring into each space. From organic textiles to lower-VOC finishes and better material choices, we want every selection to support a healthier environment without sacrificing the design.
We also believe knowledge should feel empowering, not overwhelming. Part of our role is helping families understand what to look for, what to prioritize, and where healthier choices can make the most sense, so you can feel confident in the decisions you’re making for your home.
As a mom, I understand how important it is for a room to function beautifully in real life. My perspective shapes the way we design spaces that support sleep, play, imagination and creativity because this is where they’ll make some of their earliest memories.

Why are LOW-TOX & ORGANIC products important?
Children spend a lot of time in their rooms, which is why we pay close attention to the materials, finishes, textiles, and furnishings that surround them.
Our goal is not to create a perfectly “toxin-free” space. It’s to reduce unnecessary exposure where we can and choose better materials when there’s a thoughtful, practical alternative.
We often look for options such as organic or natural textiles, lower-VOC paints and finishes, solid wood furnishings, and products made with fewer potentially harmful chemicals. These choices can help support better indoor air quality and create a more thoughtfully considered environment for your child.
We also look at the bigger picture, including durability, sourcing, sustainability, and how a product will actually function in everyday family life.
For us, healthier design is about making informed choices without compromising beauty, comfort, or the overall experience of the room.
What is offgassing?
That “new” smell from fresh paint, carpet, a new mattress, or a piece of furniture can sometimes be a sign of off-gassing.
Off-gassing happens when materials release chemicals into the air, including volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. Some products release more than others, and the amount can vary based on the materials, adhesives, finishes, and manufacturing process involved.
Common sources include furniture, flooring, carpet, paint, mattresses, cabinetry, and upholstered pieces.
This is one of the reasons we pay close attention to what products are made of and look for lower-emitting materials and finishes whenever possible. Understanding the materials in a product can help you make more informed choices about what you bring into your home.
Where do you find the unique furnishings you use?
Over the years, we’ve built relationships with a wide range of trade-only and retail vendors, along with talented craftsmen, artists, and makers who help us create pieces that feel truly special.
We’re constantly sourcing, attending markets, and discovering new products so our designs feel fresh, layered, and personal rather than pulled from the same handful of places everyone else is shopping.
For more customized projects, we also collaborate with trusted workrooms and artisans to create one-of-a-kind furnishings, upholstery, artwork, and details designed specifically for the room.
That access is one of the advantages of working with a professional designer. You’re not limited to what’s easy to find online, and the result feels much more collected, individual, and unique to your home.
Aren't products on the market REQUIRED TO BE tested for safety?
It’s easy to assume that if a product is available for sale, every material and chemical used in it has been thoroughly tested for long-term health and environmental impact. In reality, regulations vary widely by product category, and not every ingredient or material is subject to the same level of testing or disclosure before a product reaches the market.
That’s why we believe it’s worth looking a little deeper. We pay attention to material composition, finishes, certifications, manufacturer transparency, and known chemicals of concern when selecting products for children’s spaces.
The goal isn’t to create fear around every purchase. It’s to have better information so we can make more thoughtful choices about the products and materials we bring into the home.
What are some common safety hazards in a nursery?
A beautiful nursery still needs to work safely as your baby grows and becomes more mobile. A few things we always keep in mind:
Crib Safety: Keep the crib clear of loose blankets, pillows, bumpers, and stuffed animals, and make sure the mattress fits properly. Furniture Stability: Secure dressers, bookcases, and other larger furniture pieces to the wall to help prevent tipping. Decor Placement: As your baby begins crawling and pulling up, move decorative objects, cords, and anything breakable or tempting out of reach. Sharp Edges: Look for furniture with softened corners or consider ways to minimize sharp edges in high-traffic areas. Electrical Safety: Protect accessible outlets and keep cords safely managed. Everyday Essentials: Store baby care products, medications, and other small items where little hands can’t reach them.
These are just a few of the basics. As your child grows, the room should evolve with them.
